About

By being present with my clients' suffering, I help them to achieve both acceptance and change. I believe that everyone deserves happiness and that the path to happiness requires honesty, kindness, and compassion for both self and others. My style is interactive and collaborative with an emphasis on making changes via concrete, specific plans of action. I believe in creating a safe place where clients can feel seen, heard, and accepted for who they are. My understanding of the healing nature of the therapeutic relationship is grounded in attachment theory. I especially enjoy working with issues of identity and differentness. I work from a variety of therapeutic perspectives depending on the client and the situation. These perspectives include Buddhism, behaviorism, and the biopsychosocial. I have training in cognitive-behavioral therapy, dialectical behavior therapy, and sensorimotor psychotherapy. Sensorimotor psychotherapy is a "bottom-up" approach that emphasizes the wisdom of the body (mindfulness of the body) in the context of the traditional talk therapy office setting. It integrates these body-centered interventions with more traditional cognitive and psychodynamic verbal therapy methods and is based in neuroscience.
